UKPol PIP reform

Want some UK News that isn't the god awful trans decision? How about god awful disability benefit reform?

Remember how Labour are proposing limiting PIP Daily Care to those who score at least four points in a single activity... Want to know how many that will exclude?

87% of those on standard rate
13% of those on enhanced rate

They want this to be the basis of UC health stuff too (including whether you're being forced into Work)

Labour’s proposal to implement a new “4-point rule” for PIP would strip over 1.1 million disabled people of their vital daily living support. This is a stealth cut disguised as reform — and it’s set to deepen poverty and hardship for the most vulnerable. It’s not just about numbers; this change will affect the lives of hundreds of thousands of disabled people, particularly those with mental health conditions, fluctuating disabilities, and complex needs.

If you’re concerned about the impact of these changes, here’s a template letter you can use to write to your MP and make your voice heard.

Read more from Mike, all about the proposed changes and how you can take action:

Labour’s proposed changes to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) could quietly wipe out the standard rate for hundreds of thousands of disabled people. A new “4-point rule” means that 87% of current standard daily living claimants would lose their award on review.

This isn’t reform — it’s the dismantling of disability support, dressed up in bureaucratic language. The government knows the numbers.

Now, so do we.

From ThereForME:

"If you're in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland, living (or caring for someone) with Long Covid or ME/CFS and receiving PIP, UC, or ESA, we want to hear from you."

Google DocsThe new proposed welfare reforms: understanding the impact on people with Long Covid and ME/CFSThis survey is for individuals with Long Covid (LC) or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) who are receiving benefits affected by the government's proposed reforms. If the person is too unwell to complete the survey, a carer, if possible, is welcome to fill it out on their behalf. It is intended for residents of England, Northern Ireland and Wales only. Scotland has a different benefits system and requires a different survey. This survey was made in collaboration with Long Covid Support, Action for ME, ME Local Network and #ThereForME to understand the impact of the government’s proposed disability welfare reforms. Your responses will support our advocacy to the government for benefits that better support people living with these conditions. The survey has 31 questions, but not all may apply to you. We know this is a lot for people with ME/CFS and Long Covid. Each one has been carefully designed to give us meaningful data that strengthens our advocacy. Please take as much time as you need. Every question in this survey is completely optional, meaning you don't have to respond to specific questions if you don't want to. If you're signed into a Google account, your progress will be saved for 30 days so you can return to it later. By completing the survey, you are giving your consent for your anonymised responses to be used in advocacy and research communications by the following organisations: Long Covid Support, Action for ME, ME Local Network and #ThereForME. No identifying information will be shared, and all data will be handled in line with data protection best practices. Privacy Policy - Action for ME Privacy Policy - Long Covid Support If you're able to complete the survey by 24th April 2025, your responses can be included in a briefing we’re preparing for MPs. The final deadline for completing the survey is 30th May 2025, which allows us time to analyse all responses and incorporate the insights into our organisational submission to the Green Paper consultation. Regretfully, we are not able to provide and/or receive paper copies of this survey, due to the timescales involved. Thank you so much for your time and energy. This survey has been endorsed by the following organisations: Bury and Bolton ME/CFS & Fibromyalgia Support Group, ForwardME, Hope 4 ME Fibro Northern Ireland, Keyworker Petition U.K., Long Covid Advocacy, Long Covid Kids, Long Covid SOS, MERC PAG, Physios for ME and Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK, #MEActionUK, 25% ME Group.

Yesterday I learnt about my PIP being taken away, this puts me down an extra £400+ from what I was already struggling, It is to the point that I have a few options.

Option #1: Find a way to make that money back and fight for my PIP back by appealing, most likely being picked and prodded by doctors.

Option #2: Make up that 400 and not appeal meaning I will have to keep generating that 400 each month to cover my basic costs of food and stuff.

Option #3: Do nothing about it and suffer.

At this point all I can say is that I'm not sure what to do and I hate the UK Government for doing these changes, this is not a needed thing on top of all my pain.

‘Your position is no better than that of Boris Johnson who thought that Covid was “nature’s way of dealing with old people”.

In the future, people will look back and view what you are doing as the #Labour government’s way of ‘dealing with the disabled’.

The results will be the same.

People will die.’

‘If we need help with those basic things, it is highly likely that it is because of pain, discomfort, and restricted movement.

That does not start and end with dressing and washing. It is there for every moment of every day, from the time we get up in the morning until the time we go to bed at night.

What’s more, you appear to ignore the costs associated with these “low level” problems.’

A big thank you to all of you who reposted my friend’s letter regarding #PIP cuts to Disabilities Minister Stephen Timms yesterday.

We got 79 reposts here , which is absolutely brilliant!

On the Other Place it’s now been reposted over 865 times and had over 30,000 views.

The letter has caught the attention of The Canary who have published it with an intro.

FAFO time...
At least 80 Labour MPs are at risk of losing their majorities over proposed welfare cuts, according to data shared between Labour MPs who are warning the government that the changes “pose a real electoral risk”.

Cabinet and senior ministers are among those who have smaller majorities than the number of constituents expected to be affected by the changes.
