Indy Richard 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>14 years of Tory cuts and austerity and now Labour are in power it is more of the same. It simply doesn't work. Cuts do not generate growth. If people have less money in their pockets, they spend less, businesses suffer, jobs are lost and the tax take decreases. This doesn't feel like rocket science so why does it feel so difficult for government? <br><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Cuts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Cuts</span></a> <br><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Austerity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Austerity</span></a> <br><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Tory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tory</span></a> <br><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Labour" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Labour</span></a></p>

"In the UK, #Labour, like the Democrats, has long assured itself that it doesn’t matter how wide economic disparities are, as long as the poorest are raised up. Now it has abandoned even that caveat: we can cut benefits, so long as GDP grows. But it does matter. It matters very much."

"Austerity increases support for the radical right in economically vulnerable regions."

The Guardian · Rightwing populists will keep winning until we grasp this truth about human natureBy George Monbiot

Brits want closer trading relationship with EU. Even Reform voters do.

We still do more trade with EU than US, so this is absolutely where #Starmer’s priorities should be.

A trade deal with #Trump the fascist would make our online lives even more at the whim of the #Broliarchy and our #NHS a sitting duck for private healthcare and insurance.

But do #Labour care?
