These times are too much for any thinking, feeling person to handle.
That's why RPGs are better with a party.
Unfortunately IRL local #community & #MutualAid groups are tough to come by for a variety of reasons. One of my many goals is to encourage them whenever possible, but until then we have the Fediverse.
I wonder how many people reading this are lonely. Do you have more time on your hands than friends?
If so, are you willing to do 2 simple things? 1)Reply to this thread,then 2) find someone else who has replied and say hi
Hi Bazkie! Nice to meet you. Saw you're an electronic music producer. Same here! What genres are you into? Where can I listen to your music?
@peteorrall hi pete! I make all kinds of electronic music, usually with some beats involved. and I like it when it's a tad weird. my music is on my website bitplanes.nl !
and you? and what software or instruments do you use?
thanks for saying hi!
@bazkie @peteorrall
I can't say enough positive things about both of you. It breaks my heart that 2 badass, kind and talented people such as yourselves are lonely. It's so common though, that you can rest assured that it's a broken society thing & not a you thing.
@SrRochardBunson @peteorrall thank you friend
(though it's definitely ALSO a me problem - combined with a society in which I don't feel very at home but I appreciate it!)
@bazkie you're more than welcome, friend.
I was just telling @peteorrall about the countless times you have said a kind word in response to a depressed/anxious post of mine.
Paradoxically(?) I have been most vulnerable on here & felt more love and empathy than from most people I'm "close to" IRL.
@SrRochardBunson I'm very happy it is felt I love our community here and all the nice people!
I wish you (and myself) could also feel this love and empathy IRL some more too.. but I know it can be hard, the world can be pretty cold..
well, I don't wanna say too much.. I like what we have here too!
@SrRochardBunson @bazkie It's one of the real challenges of being a #caregiver and #parent of a #child with #disabilities. #Friends often don't know what to say so they don't say anything at all. Very common, actually.
It is, man. As a parent of neurodivergent kids, I get it.
But if we’re out here letting each other know we exist, that’s the right path. When likes find likes, it’s the best.
@bazkie Hey Bazkie - I have a pretty eclectic style. Lots of Detroit Techno, industrial, ambient. My SoundCloud link is on my profile. Got a handful of new tracks lined up for 2025. I will check out your stuff now.
I run a small home studio with a collection of hardware synths and software. I have enough CPU to rival Hans Zimmer.
@peteorrall @bazkie Hi Pete and @bazkie that sounds fun, would love to listen in
@RoLarenRED57 @peteorrall "enough CPU to rival Hans Zimmer"
@bazkie Dude... your music is *awesome*! Killer drum n bass programming too.
@peteorrall thank!
I love your work too! you have just 2 tracks on your soundcloud, is that correct, or am I missing some?
either way the biolab outbreak is an adventure!
@bazkie Just two songs. I was on hiatus from music for the better part of a decade for a handful of reasons. Partly deep depression from my father's death and then working in EMS, but also was doing a lot of long distance and mountain running.
In the last few years I rebuilt my studio from the ground up and (being in a better headspace) have had a torrent of new musical ideas.
BioLab Outbreak was a blast to make.
@peteorrall I see! I didn't mean it as criticism just to be clear, was just curious! You clearly have talent for musical storytelling, hope to hear more eclectic work from you!
@bazkie No criticism received. Just pathologically honesty. You can expect the next tracks to have the same level of unhinged creativity as BioLab Outbreak!
@SrRochardBunson https://a.gup.pe/u/redstateinsurgents What a great idea! I actually own 2 sets of DnD dice, would love to learn to play, don’t know where to start.
I also like to play with fabric and bread dough (not at the same time).
@RoLarenRED57 @SrRochardBunson Hi! What do your dice sets look like? Are they customs or off-the-shelf ones?
@koz @RoLarenRED57 @SrRochardBunson Hi Koz! Just a couple of Chessex sets that had a readable font and decent contrast. I got interested after bingeing all the #VLDL videos after stumbling across #EpicNPCMan
@RoLarenRED57 @SrRochardBunson What colour(s) and designs are your dice? Post a picture!
@koz @RoLarenRED57 @SrRochardBunson Forgot to attach this last night. The shop I bought them at was hosting an event with tables everywhere, I was too shy to ask about finding a beginner’s DnD group. Plain old Chessex solid dice that seemed like good starter options. Hub unit @fallingrock not too interested though.
@RoLarenRED57 @SrRochardBunson @fallingrock I think I have that blue dice set too. Mine's a bit brighter, but maybe it's just the camera or lighting.
@Chip_Unicorn @RoLarenRED57 @SrRochardBunson She spends a lot of time keeping me grounded.
@Chip_Unicorn @RoLarenRED57 @SrRochardBunson Have you tried @resistbot Chip? You can send emails, faxes, and postal letters to your reps, including Sen. Schiff
@RoLarenRED57 @Chip_Unicorn @SrRochardBunson @resistbot yooo, I didn’t know Resistbot had a fedi presence. Nice! I’ve used it a number of times and it makes it very easy to contact your appropriate reps in Congress. Not that they listen, but hey, it’s something.
I am a hesitant about any automated messages.
It is very easy to write a program that spams thousands of emails or whatnot. Even with text to speech (and services like Amazon's Polly are very good), phone calls are harder to fake.
@SrRochardBunson @redstateinsurgents I have an entire shelf of unopened board games because i have no friends to play them with.
@SrRochardBunson @redstateinsurgents
What kinds of board games?
Some of them might be playable over the Internet.
@Chip_Unicorn @shram86 @redstateinsurgents
I was just thinking that we might have to start thinking outside the box!
I would love to have a board games night with folk on the Fediverse.
@markwyner
Hehe, feels good to be seen.
@Chip_Unicorn @SrRochardBunson @redstateinsurgents@a.gup.pe I think Hero Quest could be with the companion app
I feel this pain, friend. No one will play word games with me like Scrabble because I usually win.
But I do love board games. I play them with my family whenever I can. I’m sorry to hear you have no players. If you were in my neighborhood we could play.
If you play online games (console, word, mobile, etc.), let me know. I’d be happy to connect with you.
@SrRochardBunson @redstateinsurgents
Howdy! I'm pretty good at word games my own self.
@SrRochardBunson @redstateinsurgents
If you can, start a community group. All it takes is initiative.
Mine has grown to 40 people in just 3 months.
@SrRochardBunson @redstateinsurgents Hi folks! Figured I'd reply, and then find someone to say hi to.
@Chip_Unicorn What do you want to print? That will determine a lot of the specifics, and hence, my answer.
@koz
Honestly, I don't know.
Possibly start creating characters for animation, but I haven't thought about specifics.
@Chip_Unicorn If you just want to do any kind of 3D printing as such, FDM is probably both easier and cheaper to get into. Resin printing is used when detail is absolutely paramount, but it's much messier and fussier, and thus can cost more due to the extra stuff around it.
It is definitely much less difficult to get into either kind of printing nowadays, but it's not 100% turnkey. I'd compare a 3D printer to a table saw - very capable in the right hands, but requires training and practice.
@Chip_Unicorn No worries! If you decide to go further, or have more questions, please reach out. I've been at this a while, and have made many mistakes along the way, which I can help you avoid.
Getting something like an Ender 3....
@kkarhan @Chip_Unicorn I would not start with one of those. It's called an 'Ender' because that's what it does to someone's 3D printing experience.
@koz @Chip_Unicorn depends...
I'd recommend reading up https://theguide.ctrlpew.com because it is written to accomondate absolute n0obs with shoestring budget.
@kkarhan @Chip_Unicorn Is that guide written by, or for, gun nuts? The title seems to imply it, and if so, I would basically treat _everything_ it says as suspect.
@koz @Chip_Unicorn given it was field-tested with guns I only see this as knowledge transfer.
Hi, folks.
I'm okay at organizing things; I'm a good programmer; but I'm lousy at keeping friends.
I dive too deeply into my work, come out, and wonder where everyone went.
But I'm friendly and kind. Feel free to reach my posts to learn about me.
Pleased to meet you!
All of this, Chip. I get completely buried in my myriad projects. It’s a conundrum, wanting human connection but not wanting to spend time alone accomplishing things.
@SrRochardBunson @redstateinsurgents
@SrRochardBunson @redstateinsurgents
Heavens, yes.
I'm far too focused on projects with specific outcomes and not focused enough on people.
@SrRochardBunson @redstateinsurgents tēnā koe, tēnā koutou katoa, e hoa mā. Greetings to you, to you all, my friends. One thing I've spent the last few months doing is ensuring that coffee dates happen regularly, so that local comrades get out of the house and socialize with each other. The up shot is that we are all becoming friends rather than rad acquaintances. This has led to the beginnings of mutual aid-focused activities this year and hopefully by the end of 2025, we'll have solid foundations for a city-wide community of care among radical and activist-minded people. We haven't been the best at supporting each other in the past few years.
@SrRochardBunson @redstateinsurgents
Sup, Y'all. Always down to connect with new people and hopefully vibe.
Apropos of nothing, I'm grandfather'd into the original #humblebundle, so every 3 months they charge me $35 and give me all 8-15 games for that month. Imagine that but for like... 3 years.
I will never play most of those games, so I'd like to catalog them and start giving out Steam Keys or regular Desktop keys.
I just gotta log in and start that list of what i have that i haven't redeemed, and that already sounds daunting...
Sup yo. What kind of research do you do?
