Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw
The new USCG Mackinaw, WLBB-30, replaced it's predecessor as a multi- purpose ice breaker and buoy tender.
Her mission now ice breaking, buoy tending, search and rescue, homeland security operations, pollution response, law enforcement, and public affairs.

Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw This is an image of the US Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw as she is docked on the Cheboygan River. The foreground of the image is the Cheboygan River. This is a newer class of ice breaker as she is designed for multiple missions including buoy tending and other Coast Guard activity. The bow is tall and acts as a knifes edge to break the ice as it powers across the Great Lakes. The hull sweeps into a wide platform so that when it does ride up on the ice that the ice gives way under the weight of the cutter. There is a large crane near the bow used to dispatch and retrieve buoys. The sky is partly cloudy with the majority of the clouds closer to the horizon.

Cheboygan Crib

The Cheboygan Crib Lighthouse is owned and operated by the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers. This lighthouse sits at the mouth of the Cheboygan River and Lake Huron in what is now Gordon Turner Park.

Cheboygan Crib The Cheboygan Crib sits at the end of the Cheoygan River guiding boats off of Lake Huron. The foreground of this image is a mix of sand and beach grass leading up to a red railing around the light. The light is hexagonal shape and is painted white.
