Chandra and Webb, powerful space telescopes, captured a breathtaking image of NGC 602, a cosmic wreath. Webb’s data reveals the wreath’s ring-like outline, while Chandra’s X-ray images illuminate it with the light of young, massive stars.
NGC 602, located on the outskirts of the Small Magellanic Cloud, is about 200,000 light-years away.

#NGC602 is located near the perimeter of the Small #MagellanicCloud (SMC), a small satellite galaxy of our #MilkyWay galaxy.

At the estimated distance of the SMC, the featured picture spans about 200 light-years. A tantalizing assortment of background galaxies are also visible -- mostly around the edges -- that are at least hundreds of millions of light-years beyond.

An article published in "The Astrophysical Journal" reports the identification of 64 brown dwarf candidates in the star cluster NGC 602 in the Small Magellanic Cloud, one of the Milky Way's satellite galaxies. A team of researchers used the James Webb Space Telescope to obtain the sensitivity and resolution needed to detect possible objects halfway between the planet and the star about 200,000 light-years away.
