There's been a gun shop and pistol range on the way to the supermarket since I moved to Florida. It had the typical MAGA placards around elections and gathered the clientele you'd expect.
They failed to make the lease payments last year, got evicted, and this week the building was demolished and the site is slated for commercial redevelopment.
Now it makes me smile every time I drive by!
these two local stories are in addition to the ones I posted in the past few days. this brings the total number of area schools dealing with urgent gun violence issues in the past week to 4.
we don't need metal detectors in schools. we also don't need SROs in schools. we need safer communities, a national commitment to gun control, and stronger teacher unions to stand up to this nonsense. FIX THE LAWS.
Wayne LaPierre's final lie before stepping down: that he's stepping down for health reasons. He's the guy that made the NRA into the extremist terrorist organization it is, making possible the endless gun massacres that Americans experience with numbing frequency. He's why Americans think "this is normal" while the rest of the world, including many nations with active war zones, go "WTF is wrong with you guys?"

The last legal buyer of any gun should be responsible for every crime committed with said gun unless it is documented stolen.

I am mostly not a fan of field trips. They are chaotic, unpredictable, and physically laborious. But I always enjoy our annual Halloween trip to a local cemetery. I get to tell a ghost story, and I enjoy the walk from our school.
This year, tho, we are discussing locations along the way that we can take shelter in, should community violence get close again.
It is so difficult to learn and teach in unsafe spaces. Another year of trauma
