Well shit.

Avoided it for 3 years, but one of my wife's coworkers came to work sick, got her sick, now I've got it. Feeling pretty discouraged, to think of all the precautions we have taken, only to have this happen ☹️

Wife was pretty sick for about 5 days. I just started feeling it yesterday. Not doing too bad, but damn if I'm not upset about her coworker's inconsideration.

I'm planning to still keep up the fight, still take precautions - that's the smart thing to do, right? Looking for a little reassurance/support.

@perpetualmystic I follow #augieray.mastodon.social for covid advice and updates.

Hope you and your wife are doing well, and better

@caragraph thank you 🙏 And thanks for the tip, I will definitely give a follow.

@perpetualmystic Ah balls. I hope it doesn't hit you too hard. Sending healing vibes.

@perpetualmystic That stinks! Best wishes for a quick recovery. Definitely do still keep up precautions; solidarity!

@stelloctahedron thank you! 🙏 I honestly was pondering giving up masking, etc. But then I've seen studies that having repeated infections increases the chance of long-term repercussions. Not only that, I don't really want to spread to other vulnerable people. At least I know I haven't given it to anyone else, since I mask whenever out - and that's a nice feeling 😊

@perpetualmystic
This pandemic has turned everyone into inconsiderate fools. I'm sorry you caught it, I hope it stays "mild" and yes, absolutely keep up the fight! You know the numbers, each time it gets worse, if not in the actual days when you're sick but I can speak from experience, 2x long covid is a whole new level from 1x. Advice: rest, rest and more rest. Do not push your body. I hope you don't get it but long covid shows up after ~4 weeks and it's sneaky. You don't realize it at first.

@juliewebgirl thank you! 🙏 I'm going to keep up the fight - appreciate the words of support.

@perpetualmystic So sorry to hear this. I hope you both feel better soon! Rest, rest, rest. Housework can wait. Don’t lift heavy things, don’t go up and down stairs if it can be avoided. Lie in a dark quiet place if that feels good. Close your eyes as often as possible. Don’t exert your brain if you can help it! These are all tips I’ve gathered from others, and can attest to myself. The more you can rest now, the better chances you’ll have at a good outcome later.

@perpetualmystic And don’t give up; continue to take precautions. As others have said, it’s not your fault, nor your wife’s. We’re out here trying to survive and the odds are utterly stacked against us! The fewer infections we get, the more likely we will be to continue living our lives the way we wish to. Stay strong and know you have lots of internet strangers in your corner.

@nothingtoseehere thank you so much for the kind words of support! 🙏
