Are there services where you can sign up with matrix or xmpp, similarly how traditionally you'd sign up with email? Or an SDK that enables building that?

@okko not sure if this helps.
SSO / SAML / Oauth can be configured on all chat sever platforms. (matrix/jabber/...).
Authentik / authelia / keycloak are good SSO servers.

@dashall This is kind of the reverse what I'm looking for: Logging into xmpp/matrix with another account.
(instead of making an account with your xmpp)

@okko use a puppet service bridge then. matrix has more then enough available - jabber too.

@dashall Not looking for a bridge either, I'm just looking completely separate services that allow making an account with a xmpp address

@dashall
TBH I think SSO is not there yet for XMPP. I don't think any FOSS client supports it yet
@okko

@jaj @dashall I see, but I'm not looking for SSO. Maybe I worded my toot badly

@okko
I don't know of any such service. There are such services which use whatsapp alternatively to SMS but I never heard of one which uses xmpp or matrix. I agree that mail is a real pain

@jaj Do you think building something like it would be worth it? I've been thinkikg about it.

@okko
It could be but it would be very niche for the few tech people of us. Maybe one way would be to create a service which is backend agnostic and which can provide any number of communication backend, matrix and xmpp being one of them

@jaj Fair. Incorporating multiple backends sounds like too much work and might be even hard to maintain
