We often learn at a very early age to simply numb our experiences, to numb the perceptions of how bad it really is. Or we fight the signals and everything feels like you’re battling the world constantly, all the time.
Either way, that takes an extraordinary amount of energy. It’s exhausting.
I learned, quite unconsciously, to contain and bury my #autism so deeply I had no idea it was there until I was diagnosed, aged 63.
I only found out when a loss of mental 'horsepower' made it impossible for me to keep it all buried any longer. And so it all came out...
And yes, with hindsight, it was wearying and terribly exhausting.
@PatternChaser That's an unfortunately common story.
Glad you figured yourself out eventually! Congrats on that!
You have new information with which to make a new choices.
@hmm_cook It's now 6 years since my diagnosis, and I'm still thinking about it, and learning new things. But I'm making progress, and gradually 'getting there'.
