@georgetakei you just cannot make their foolishness up, it’s amazing
Kinzinger was in the WI ANG. I'll be damned.
I was setting up to get into that Guard straight from the Air Force, and central to that was a party I was throwing for them and all Wisconsinites near Frankfurt AB in Germany, 1977.
And it would have worked, too, if those meddling Baader-Meinhof kids hadn't blown up the O'Club the afternoon before the party.
@georgetakei this is a spicy form of schadenfreude
@georgetakei MAUREEN SWEENEY, the Irish woman whose weather report changed the timing the D-Day landings, died just before Christmas, aged 100. RIP Maureen
@alisca @georgetakei It was sent from Blacksod Bay, Belmullet, wasn't it? My MiL's homeplace.
@georgetakei
Completely true. My uncle was in the Royal Navy in combined operations. It was his third big seaborne landing. Bad weather held them back. Should have been on the 2nd or 3rd of June.
Hmm comparing a football game to D Day…
@chrisU @georgetakei the fact that he really thought the “damn game” was as urgent as a military operation. (More urgent, apparently, not that he knew.)
And like, I’m not a huge fan of football, but there are a number of things that happen during a military operation, that, frankly, regardless of where you stand on them happening at all, definitely shouldn’t be happening in a football game.
@georgetakei JA needed a little extra time off. The NFL kindly obliged.
@georgetakei oh my fucking god
@georgetakei Yes, in fact my father's diary from the time confirms this.
@georgetakei and the second part of the mission collecting the Highland Division from St Valery was cancelled completely by fog, abandoning them to their fate.
(nothing to do with the fact that St Valery was a really bad choice, with a high cliff behind it, making it almost impossible to approach safely from the sea )
@georgetakei "A little rough weather..".
Sure dude, because a football game should come with frost bite of your dick and hypothermia. Otherwise you're just a weakling for not showing up...
Ffs, these people are politicizing extreme weather.
@georgetakei When you try to go forward with something by using a historical event as a basis that only proves the point more: https://youtu.be/Ag1o3koTLWM
