Time Magazine just got its twitter account hacked by crypto spammers who are using it to advertise a #TIME memecoin on solana.
Pretty sure this is what people mean when they talk about "the new economy".
@cryptadamist Were they hacked or did Musk just give somebody the keys to the account? How would we tell the difference?
@gooba42 i'm sure they were hacked. memecoin bros are constantly hacking any and every high follower account that they can find to shill a coin. happens almost every day to someone.
@cryptadamist Yeah, I just can't give Musk the benefit of the doubt anymore.
His platform is toxic garbage and it infects everyone connected to it.
@gooba42 to be slightly fair to musk this used to happen constantly before he took it over too. (what you can blame him for is that if the account is just like a normal person w/ a high follower count it's often impossible for them to get the account back because the support team is a skeleton crew)
@cryptadamist I think my real concern is the ambiguity. He has plausible deniability to actually do this shit and he has the legal system covering for him in the event he decided to indulge in that kind of direct sabotage.
@gooba42 tbh i think the kinds of direct sabotage he engages in are a lot more damaging to the world than letting Time Magazine's account get hacked for an hour... like he's obviously manipulated the algorithm to show more pro-trump content and demonetize critics.
@cryptadamist Not as fun or flashy though.
@gooba42 orders of magnitude more profitable though... these account takeovers make money but not really that much money.
