Swede’s Photographs

Among the Branches

I caught sight of a downy woodpecker (Picoides pubescens) perched high in a distant forest tree. These woodpeckers are somewhat elusive in this area, though I do occasionally get a close look at one in my backyard—although not recently.

@Swede1952
Two much lower quality photos of downy woodpeckers (I think) in my yard this month.

@Swede1952 I feel lucky that they're common in our neighborhood and visit our yard regularly. During the colder months when I have suet feeders out, they're here every day.

Other people write of them visiting their bird feeders frequently. I’ve never observed one at any of my feeders. I have seen them close by though. Just not often.

@Swede1952 I only see them at suet feeders and have heard similar observations from others.

@aka60643

I have a suet feeder out but haven't seen one there either.
