Swede’s Photographs

Speaking of hummingbirds.

I wanted to share this photograph of this little guy. He is a ruby-throated hummingbird and the self-proclaimed monarch of the hummingbird feeders. Seen here, he is sitting atop a shepherd's hook guarding the bird feeders. Notice that he still has sugar water dripping from his beak.

"Ruby-throated Hummingbirds fly straight and fast but can stop instantly, hover, and adjust their position up, down, or backwards with exquisite control. They often visit hummingbird feeders and tube-shaped flowers and defend these food sources against others. You may also see them plucking tiny insects from the air or from spider webs." - allaboutbirds.org

@Swede1952 We're just about to get hit with our hummingbirds; can't wait for them!

@Swede1952 Very impressed with your pictures! Not easy getting pics of hummingbirds, I’ve tried!

@Swede1952
Some people think that hummingbirds "chirp" in flight, but actually when two are fighting a turf war, they will play Chicken, flying toward the ground at high speed. The chirp sound occurs when they pull up at the last minute, because of the air displacement created by their super-fast wings.
