@georgetakei Abolish trump.
@mamiyaman @georgetakei Internal Compiler Errors are the worst
@georgetakei They say off campus residences, but such residences are often college owned. The question has to be asked as to how ICE knew the location of this person. The most likely answer imo is that it was provided to them either officially or unofficially from a university database.
In WA state, there were state government employees who would cough up addresses to federal law enforcement against state policy. The same sort of thing might be happening here.
@Infoseepage @georgetakei ICE knows where you are because science service provider changed side 20 years ago to law enforcement and data brokering. Publisher like Elsevier and data base producer like Thomson Reuters bought the heritage of Hank Asher, "big brother's little helper", and are now feeding the deportion mashine. It's a treason of academia and it pays off.
Students on legal visas are required to update the US government with their contact information and temporary residences. If they will be traveling within the USA, for example over Spring Break, their travel plans must be submitted for approval, and include addresses and reservations for intended stays.
That was pre-47. There may be more rules now.
@georgetakei this cannot keep happening! Keep posting about it. Call legislators. Don’t allow Trump to end rule of law because he thinks he can!
@georgetakei Who was the student? Are we even sure it was ICE that took this person away? (When they're wearing plain clothes and masks and snatching people off the street, there's no way to tell.)
@Soozcat who are you? Where is your face? How do we know you aren't working for ICE? State your intentions.
@georgetakei I would love to see the media and official channels like university PR change the language they use to describe this. These aren't arrests or detentions. These are kidnappings.
