I’m tired of a lifetime of springing forward and falling back. Can’t we just do something once and stay there? Asking for a nation.
@georgetakei Here in #Hawaii we don't do #DaylightSavingTime and it's glorious.
@BruceMirken @georgetakei Doesn’t matter a lot at your latitude so that makes sense
@amazing_tvn @georgetakei Actually, our days do noticeably lengthen in summer. In any case, an additional hour of evening daylight is still an hour at any latitude.
@BruceMirken @amazing_tvn @georgetakei And the mic dropped!
@georgetakei If we all are not very careful the future will be a new middle ages for the whole wide world ...
@georgetakei
That's rather profound sir.
I agree most whole heartedly.
@georgetakei I like the proposal of moving eastern time zone back an hour to join with central, and pacific time moving an hour ahead to merge with mountain time so the entire continental u.s. is only one hour apart. This would have the least impact to adjust and make it easier to program live events w national interest
@georgetakei Edit: I totally misread the context, that hidden language. My apologies.
@georgetakei We should go back to using sundials. They update automatically and gradually.
@georgetakei
Agreed. I hate 21st century humans attempt to time travel.
@georgetakei
Mexico has abandoned changing clocks as of this year.
@georgetakei The nation's pet-owners are definitely with you here.
@14mission @georgetakei
Pets? Ha! I'm just glad I no longer have young children to deal with. Get your baby on a schedule, then go back to square one...
Science has shown that living as close as possible to solar time is best for our health. Switching clocks twice a year is bad (being an hour off part of the year), but it’s better than being an hour off all year round.
So, we have to not just pick any time to fix at, we have to pick the right time, solar time.
@georgetakei Be the change you want to see in the world. Just switch to giving all your times in UTC.
It’s not a big deal. I’m okay with it.
@georgetakei
Amen!
What no one realizes is that it is one more way to control us, by getting us out of touch with nature and its rhythms.
@georgetakei
I once was against the daylight saving, but I live in a country where it makes a difference if the sun rises at 8:30am or 9:30am in the darkest times.
And in summer I don't need sunrise at 4am but it's way more fun to have a sunset at 11:30pm.
@georgetakei
There is a possibility that we will all fall forward onto our faces. Just give it long enough.
@georgetakei
The greatest part of the world's population wants this stupidity to cease. It only requires that a boat load of politicians get their heads out of their backsides
@georgetakei can we go forward and stay there?
No one really wants to go backwards.
GoP excepted obv.
@georgetakei Speak with Rubio. He is dead set against standard time, while physicians say standard time is the healthier option. Until he changes his mind we change our clocks.
And Standard time > Daylight Saving Time for so many reasons. All DST correlations related to health and deaths are negative*.
Yet the Congressional bill that's been pushed has been pro-DST (thanks to retailers and sports industry? something like that). For regular working people, nope. Listen to the health experts and stick with Standard.
*I guess I should say, there are significantly positive correlations between DST and negative health results (including death)
@georgetakei I must be one of the only advocates of the time change. People like long summer nights. And those of us up north hate late winter mornings so the time change makes sense. PLEASE don’t make my mornings dark all winter! If we must abandon the time change, please make it standard time.
@amazing_tvn @georgetakei I'm another advocate. Love the late summer evenings, but dark winter mornings would be too much.
@georgetakei yup, we're all sick of it.
@georgetakei
Just make Standard Time permanent
The military and aviation ( and databases ) run on Greenwich Mean Time / UTC
@georgetakei The cows in Iowa have been right all along - Daylight Saving Time is a bad thing!
@georgetakei
25 hours every Sunday!
@georgetakei hahaha .. it ain’t bothering me.
@georgetakei dude. Ask for the world.
@georgetakei it’s a reasonable question though I prefer the time changes. Moreover, those living in the Southern US don’t really get what the northern states experience. The light and dark cycles are so different with the northern and southern latitudes.
@georgetakei
I don't understand it either.
@georgetakei
Why does the US change 1 week after Europe? So it's still dark on Halloween?
This is precisely the reason: so that there's an extra hour of sunlight Halloween night for trick-or-treaters and the confectionery industry.
@georgetakei it's time (pun intended)
@georgetakei Why don't we all just band together and refuse the change come spring?
@taur10
Bad idea. we wouldn't have any disc golf leagues if we did that. I look forward to the clock change in the spring. It just energizes me.
@georgetakei Do it for George!
It's called "Standard Time" for a reason; we should probably just stick with it forevermore.
@georgetakei
I am 100% fine with it. Not a big deal really.
@georgetakei@universeodon.com Agreed. I am so freaking tired of this twice-annual bollocks. 13% of all pedestrian traffic fatalities in the US occur in the week immediately following each clock change. (i.e, two weeks total.) The statistical expectation in those two weeks, absent clock change, would be 4%.
@georgetakei I advocate for splitting that hour.
@georgetakei California voters passed a ballot referendum in 2018 to keep DST all year round, but that hasn't been enacted.
@Pattie541 @georgetakei
Nope. The referendum that passed was to pick one and stay there all year. It left it up to the legislature to pick which one.
@georgetakei It's pretty nasty with folks like me who have issues with the lack of sunlight in winter. Can understand that completely.
@georgetakei
We can always go back to local time, where noon is noon based on your sundial... It makes for very funny bus schedules.
@georgetakei
You misspelled “planet”.
@mysturji @georgetakei American. They're the same thing in the US.
@georgetakei Not while the two-party puppet-show of distractions is in power. The parties of Unchange must be replaced.
@georgetakei I agree. Wreaks havoc with sleep and the body. Insomniacs need help. Keep it the same year round.
@georgetakei I've kept my clocks on standard time for over a decade now.
@georgetakei
Didn’t we do that in the ‘70’s and then abandon it?
@georgetakei Not just one nation, this Brit is equally fed up.
Is it really that hard? Midday is when the sun is highest in the sky, averaged over a band of longitude.
People who want more daylight waking or working hours, just get up, go to bed, or go to work at different times. There's no need to change the clocks for the whole world to let you do that.
@georgetakei Uh, George, I think I know what you mean but I wouldn't want to live stuck in middle ages some want to push us back to. Careful what you wish for...
@georgetakei It would be better for all of us in terms of health if we stayed on Standard time (what we're on now) all year.
@georgetakei visit the in-laws twice a year and ignore it while in Arizona :)
