@georgetakei The only victory against fascism is forcing an unconditional surrender upon it on pain of annihilation. The only peace is their utter and permanent defeat and subjugation to the authority of civil government.
@mos_8502 @georgetakei But we tried that in 1945, and just look where we are now.
@etikemik @georgetakei Wrong. They showed too much mercy at the end of the war.
@mos_8502 @georgetakei Precisely my point. Unconditional surrender and subjugation to law, on pain of annihilation, hasn’t worked. Only actual annihilation would.
@mos_8502 @georgetakei And there lies the rub: Annihilating #Fascism looks a lot like #Fascism.
@georgetakei “Freedom Fest”? Sure, nothing says freedom like book burnings.
@georgetakei
When a group fetishizes weaponry, demonizes science, and dehumanizes minorities of all types, what do you expect?
The former Republican Party (now Fascists) has normalized mob rule.
@georgetakei kind of a Nazi and KKK cross-breed they have going on in the MO GOP
@georgetakei
Where they burn books, eventually people will get burned in the end.
@TedPowerman @georgetakei
"The incidents of 1933 to 1945 would have had to be fought by 1928 at the latest. [...] You cannot wait until fighting for freedom is called treason. [...] You have to stomp the rolling snow ball. [...]
This is the moral of what happened to us 1933. [...] Dictatorships can only be stopped before they arise."
-Erich Kästner, About the Burning of Books
(who was present at one of the burning of his own books)
@georgetakei I love that after staging a photo that looks like book burning, the response of these two STATE SENATORS was basically “lol they’re just boxes.” As if owning the bleeding heart book lovers was the point.
NOT the point you fascist jerks.
If you ask me, this whole scenario smacks of incitement. They’re just following the example set by their Dear Leader.
@georgetakei
After the books they "burn" the people.
Or as a minimum send them to re-education camps.
@georgetakei it would be awesome to find out they accidentally burned a bunch of bibles.
@georgetakei What do you want to bet there’s a certain book by Ray Bradbury in there…
@georgetakei they burned books at something called "Freedom Fest"?
@georgetakei
They either can't read or can't understand and they are insanely mad - fascist zombies do that sort of stuff
@georgetakei The GOP has rabies. Time to put it down.
Let's just call them the Nazis that they are
@georgetakei
May I have your #AttentionPlease?
We have now reached 5/10/33 in the #Holocaust2 timeline.
@georgetakei cause book burning has worked well the dozens of previous times that governments have used it as a tool, right?
THIS IS WHY we can't have nice things!
@georgetakei They called it a 'Freedom Fest'! Their blindness to irony is mind-boggling.
@georgetakei we're stuck with them for at least another two years...
@georgetakei They're burning boxes, not books. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZALESQqwgWw
I used to wonder what it would be like to live in the 30's in Germany.
For the last 6 years, I no longer wonder about how a society moves towards fascism. People voting in favour of losing their own rights and democracy.
Seeing politicians now using flamethrowers to support their 'pledge to burn books' makes Kristallnacht in Germany even more real.
One poster: A literal book burning. They think flamethrowers should be legal but history books should be destroyed.
