The type of #search I’m missing the most on the #fediverse & @Mastodon et.al. is a URL search.
Once I can search for links and see all posts containing it, I can much more easily boost link originators, as well as look for alternative takes.
This is especially important for #news , as I always prefer boosting the signal of the original publisher if they have an active fedi account.

Very true. Some instances have implemented custom full text search like: https://universeodon.com
I'm hoping it gets implemented in the future. It's being discussed here: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/21627

@cragsand @Mastodon do searches on universeodon go across the fediverse? Do I have to be logged in? Tried searching for ‘npr’ and <https://www.npr.org/2023/04/12/1169269161/npr-leaves-twitter-government-funded-media-label> just now and got 0 results.

Yes, you have to be on an instance that has that search extension installed. On regular servers it will not work.
It has this custom patch by VyrCossont installed: https://github.com/VyrCossont/mastodon/pull/8
Heres what I get when searching: "npr"on Universeodon
