If without inhumane extremes - try Alfa Network USB adapters. I used several models with indexes 036 and 051 - and they all worked fine with FreeBSD 11 and 12.

@ogogon It is just a personal workstation, so nothing major, other than single-person usage. I will look into Alfa Network adapters. Thank you!
