Tonight’s revelation in the basement is that a fairly radical tempo change in a song is basically like stringing two separate songs together. I’ll be ramping from 66bpm to 140bpm or so, then probably back down for the outro. I wrote entirely different orchestration in terms of instruments, vibe and energy in the song segments. I think I’ve got the transitions figured out. I’m keeping chords really simple throughout, as this is going to fry my brain a bit. The vocal melody will pretty much be the same, just faster with more energy in the up-tempo parts, and likely with some improv. Learning a shit ton of new stuff. #music #recording #songwriting

Long basement session tonight. Wrote another song. Lyrics, chords, key and tempo figured out. Also learned how to do a tempo change in Tracktion Waveform. Pretty radical tempo change in the new song. Never done a bpm change mid-song before. Should be interesting. #music #songwriting #recording

Been having lower back pain for 4 months now. Didn’t do anything specifically to trigger it; just came on. I’ve been whacking up on ibuprofen and acetaminophen for pain. Went to the doctor the other day. Sent me in for x-rays and said I’ve got sacroiliitis, some issue with my SI joint. Now sending me in for CT scans. So I bought a new chair for my evening music sessions yesterday. Tried it out the last couple nights, and wow. Game changer. My last chair was flat as a board on the back. This chair has an adjustable lumbar thingy with mesh fabric back. Sat in a bunch of chairs at Staples and I knew right away this is the one. Zero pain the last couple nights at the DAW. Also, for guitar players like me, the arms easily pivot up and swing out of the way. Bonus. It’s called a Raynor Ion chair. So far, so good. #music #gearsquad #health #review #guitar #recording

Mischpulte?

Hey I'm back from #recording at the sandstone tower and I'm happy to report that I have 3 new demos for the #offlinealbum :)

Along with my visit to the tower went the stipulation that I wouldn't read the news or visit social media while I am there.

I'm not saying the solution to everything is to withdraw completely, but I have to admit: It was *really* nice not to be reminded every day all the sh*t going wrong in this world (which btw rendered the demos a bit more introspective…)

Lesson learned.
