Also horribly relevant is a dark H. L. Mencken remark from 1926. It's almost always misquoted for pithiness, but apparently in its original form was:

"No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.”

This Day in Quotes · “No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.” - This Day in QuotesIn many books of quotations and on thousands of websites H.L. Mencken is credited with the famous quote “No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”…
"Remember that there is a distinction between a programming language and a graphical user interface. Don't confuse snazzy graphics (generated using someone else's libraries and tools) with good programming."
~ Bjarne Stroustrup (C++ Inventor)

Unfortunately, unlike moving from one Mastodon account to another, there's no an automated way to redirect folk to the Friendica site. I hate to risk losing followers through "Oh, I never saw the announcement," but the improved service and maintainability of this site are worth the risk.

I will send out some follow-up messages over the coming weeks, just to maximize chances folk will see it.

Hope to see you at @wist (my-place.social/profile/wist).

WIST Quotations is MOVING to @wist

That Friendica site gets me around the 500 byte limits here and includes rich text formatting, but is still fully accessible via ActivityPub to all Mastodon and Fediverse users. Since I don't want to double-dip on posting content, I will be quiescing this Mastodon account.

If you have enjoyed this account, please search for @wist (my-place.social/profile/wist). Hope to see you there!
