🧵1 RE-thinking about what you've 'accomplished'
Maybe more so since I'm now the other side of 60, I occasionally think about this on a more life-long scale. Some days I definitely think 'What the heck have I done?' and I chose not to really pursue 'success' in the obvious way, rather to 'live' (and yes, you could 'live' more spectacularly with more 'success' lol)--

@ben Even in the 80's when I was a child, the diversity was still good. I remember when my 5 year old sister won us a trip to New York City, my mom had so many choices to book the airline tickets. We chose the Eastern Shuttle and flew down on an A300. But right next to us at a gate was a New York Air DC-9 and I loved the look of the plane. #memories.

5 years ago, lockdown in Sicily started.

There were no facemasks, people improvised with what they had, painters masks, scarves, cut up diapers.

Had an illegal BBQ with our friend who got trapped, hauled out alone in a boatyard that shut down and just gave him the gate key but no access to water. He was going crazy, with only Merkel the boatyard dog for company.

Meanwhile our boat started leaking. With no way to haul out I was forced into a very creative repair.

The US #school system is deeply flawed.

Why do we force #children to sit still for 8 hours per day? Force them to wake/sleep against their brain's natural cycle (sleep is when #memories form and for kids, neurodevelopment too).

Sometimes we even throw #medications at them to force this #compliance.

And if a kid is #neurodivergent, this is extremely toxic. e.g. I am NOT OK, the public school system has given me #cPTSD, and stunted my intellectual development.

We need to do better for all #kids. And banning #books is not the right way to do it.

Ever watch/listen to something when you were a small child and now can't remember exactly what it was? This photo reminds me of a scene from an '80s/'90s film (I would've viewed it around 1992-94 or so), where two pre-teen boys are walking around a very small arched pedestrian bridge on a cloudy day in what looks to be the English countryside(?) One of them is your average schoolboy (think Bastian Bux from The Neverending Story), and the other seems to be carrying a basketball-sized bright, glowing orb of some sort. I swear I remember the second boy casually hanging upside down by his legs from the bridge while chatting with the first. Maybe it was a kind of first meeting scene for the two of them, though it's hard to say. Anyway, this photo—while of a *much* larger bridge (theirs was about 30 feet/9 meters in length over a very small stream)—reminds me of that scene, and it's the only one I remember from the film. How I long to see it again 🎞️
