28 beer stores close because of #Harper and #DougFord. Not that I feel bad for Brewers Retail (Labatts, Molsons, Sleemans owned), but they kept prices low, and always took back bottles and cans. Now people are paying more and bottles and cans are stacking up in the backs of kitchens! Also they always had parking. And another proudly Canadian institute quietly dies

Remember when Norm and Cliff used to be in the commercials?

S&P 500 drops, flirting with #correction after roller-coaster trading day

> The broad stock index is flirting with entering "correction territory" — meaning it is nearing a 10% decline from the highs it reached in February — after President #DonaldTrump announced a new, 50% tariff threat on #Canada in response to the imposition of an #electricity surcharge there

> He ultimately lifted those threats after #Ontario Premier #DougFord relinquished on imposing the surcharge

NBC News · S&P 500 drops, flirting with correction after roller-coaster trading dayBy Rob Wile

trump didn't cancel any tariffs today, only #DougFord did. there was already planned for tonight a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum. That's been in place for a month or so.

It was going to be, at one point, 25% wide spread tariff PLUS 25% on steel & alum starting tonight. he already paused the initial 25%, but the second 25% is still happening according to CNN

He continues to bluff as his stock markets implode

Eff me, Canadian media have become a bunch of credulous lapdogs—CBC huffing and drooling at the front of the dog-walker’s pack of the tamed, submissive animals.

Not one story I’ve heard yet of Doug Ford’s latest interaction with Washington has mentioned the coincident hammering the market has been taking as the tariff idiocy escalates and Trump’s desperate need for an out.

They’ll be back. Ford has been used.

Mark these words.

Trump placing 25% tariff on steel, aluminum after backing off 50% threat

> The White House said Tuesday U.S. President #DonaldTrump will go ahead with a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian #steel and #aluminum just after midnight, capping off yet another chaotic day of trade threats and 51st state taunts.

> Trump said earlier in the day he would hike the tariff rate on those metals to 50 per cent cbc.ca/news/politics/trump-can #DonaldTrump #MAGA #CDNpoli #CANpoli #ONpoli #DougFord #Tariffs #Canada

Trump and Canada tariffs:

> In a post on X Ontario Premier #DougFord says he has spoken with #US commerce secretary #HowardLutnick and has agreed to suspend #Ontario’s tax on exports of electricity to #Michigan, #NewYork and #Minnesota. The two are set to meet in Washington Thursday

> #DonaldTrump said he is moving immediately to jack up tariffs to 50 per cent on all Canadian #steel and #aluminum, to take effect Wednesday, in retaliation for Premier Doug Ford’s move...

#US President #DonalTrump has been jolted by Ontario’s 25 per cent surcharge on electricity

> Twelve hours after Premier #DougFord imposed what he dubbed “#tariff response charge” to be paid by utilities in #NewYork, #Michigan and #Minnesota that import #Ontario power, Trump took to social media to complain.

> [..] Ontario just announced a 25% surcharge on ‘electricity,’ of all things, and your (sic) not even allowed to do that,” the president said late Monday night.

@Globob "The rough estimate is that #Ontario is importing between $1.5 and $2 billion worth of natural gas from the United States per annum for electricity and home heating.

Approximately 70 per cent of the natural gas Ontario imports is fracked gas from Ohio and Pennsylvania."

#DougFord's angling for #PierrePoilievre's job.

His electricity bluff is going to harm #Ontario instead.

Just like the #AutoSector, Ontario's grid is integrated with its neighbours. If we cut off power we could contribute to instability of our own system!

We also pay the Americans to take our surplus power. How does a tariff work then?

Don't be fooled, Ford always looks out for himself first!
