djl 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>In June I enjoyed a whisky weekend in Campbeltown with my nephew and one of the highlights was the Cadenhead’s Creations Blending Lab Experience. Here you get to make your own unique blend from eight of Cadenhead&#39;s Warehouse Casks, undeclosed. </p><p>My blend had 250 ml Highland PX, 150 ml Speyside Port, 200 ml Speyside Bourbon and 100 ml Highland Oloroso. NC, NCF, 56.7% abv. Ginger spice on the nose, caramel and whiffs of varnish. Slightly woody on the tongue that develops into soft sweet toffeeness, with sweet dark fruit, figs, dates, raisins and more spice. Long sweet finish.</p><p>We did this last year and I think my attempt this year is much improved. If you are lucky enough to spend some time in Campbeltown I would thoroughly recommend this experience. It&#39;s one hundred quid for two hours but well worth it.</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/whisky" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>whisky</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/scotch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>scotch</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/blendedmalt" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>blendedmalt</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Campbeltown" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Campbeltown</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Scotland</span></a></p>
djl 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>In 1819, Perth was home to 44 distilleries and was known as the whisky blending capital of the world with blenders Gloag (Famous Grouse), Bells, and Dewars based there. There are no distilleries left in Perth but Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, continue to blend their Thomsons Old Perth there. Old Perth dates back to 1908 when it was created by grocer and wine merchant, Peter Thomson. Old Perth PX is a limited edition blended malt Scotch whisky blended from Pedro Ximénez sherry matured Speyside whiskies and it&#39;s an absolute belter.</p><p>Old Perth Pedro Ximénez, NC, NCF, 56.2% abv. Lovely dark fruit on the nose: prunes, dates, raisins and a touch of liquorice. More sticky dark fruit joined by spice and dark chocolate on the palate. Wee hints of orange peel and marmalade and a warm spicy finish.</p><p>Despite being a limited edition you can still get a hold of it, and with my bottle more empty than full, I&#39;ll be ordering another.</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/whisky" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>whisky</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/scotch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>scotch</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/blendedmalt" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>blendedmalt</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Scotland</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Perth" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Perth</span></a></p>

djl 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>A few weeks ago my nephew and I took a sailing dash to <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Campbeltown" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Campbeltown</span></a> where we went to the <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Springbank" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Springbank</span></a> shop and had a Glengyle distillery tour. The highlight of the trip was a &quot;Cadenhead’s Creation – Blending Session&quot;, one where you can fancy yourself as a master blender 😂 </p><p>It costs £100 which may sound a lot but for that you come away with a unique whisky blend of your own making (cask strength), emblazoned with your own label. During the session you have eight 40ml samples to taste and mix (and finish) as well as an etched copita glass (and a Glencairn if you ask nicely), notebook, certificate and other bits and pieces. It&#39;s also an absolute hoot! </p><p>I would encourage anyone who has the chance to get to Campbeltown to give this a go.</p><p>My nephew writes for the whisky blog &quot;Dramface&quot; and he recently recounted our experience.</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/whisky" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>whisky</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Scotland</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/blendedmalt" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>blendedmalt</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/whiskey" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>whiskey</span></a></p><p><a href="https://www.dramface.com/all-reviews/cadenheads-blending-experience" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">dramface.com/all-reviews/caden</span><span class="invisible">heads-blending-experience</span></a></p>
djl 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>The final night of our three weeks of saling and we are in Lamlash Bay, Arran before heading back to Largs tomorrow.. We&#39;ve sailed over 400 NM, been as far north as Portree and as far south as Glenarm. We&#39;ve visited 18 moorings, marinas and anchorages, met some wonderful folks and shared and demolished five bottles of malt.</p><p>Tonight I am enjoying a Campbeltown Loch Blended Malt sitting looking over the bay to Holy Isle and watching the boats come and go.</p><p>Campbeltown Loch Blended Malt Scotch Whisky 46% abv, NC, NCF, NAS</p><p>A bit briny and a bit smoky, orange peel, chocolate and licorice allsorts! An oily mouthful with caramel, vanilla and raisins. Gentle oak spice and black pepper. Slightly dry finish. This is a complex dram and the longer I leave it the more it develops. Blended using all five Campbeltown malt brands. That’s Springbank, Longrow, Hazelburn, Kilkerran and Glen Scotia.</p><p>At under £40, it&#39;s a real bargain IMO.</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/whisky" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>whisky</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/blendedmalt" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>blendedmalt</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/scotch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>scotch</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Scotland</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Campbeltown" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Campbeltown</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/whiskey" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>whiskey</span></a></p>
djl 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>Despite the bright sunshine, it&#39;s been as cauld as fuck in <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Edinburgh" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Edinburgh</span></a> today, a snell wind from the east. The central heating is back on and a night for a sherry bomb.</p><p>Old Perth blended malt, 56.2%, NC, NCF, NAS.</p><p>The whiskies have all been matured in oloroso or Pedro Ximénez hogsheads and butts before being blended together and spending 15 months in first-fill PX casks. </p><p>It&#39;s a beautiful tawny colour in the glass and plunging my nose in I get wafts of dark, sweet dried fruit with a hint of liquorice. Velvety, unctuous mouthful of raisins, sticky dates and sherry soaked prunes with dark chocolate. Warm finish of marmalade and woody spice.</p><p>It&#39;s a belter, perfect for a cold night staying in and watching the snooker.</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/whisky" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>whisky</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/blendedmalt" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>blendedmalt</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/scotch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>scotch</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Scotland</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/whiskey" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>whiskey</span></a></p>
djl 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿<p>After a week of working on my boat Jess, she&#39;s back on her berth where I managed to get the headsail on this morning. All set for our 1st trip next weekend. This evening I&#39;m going to get wired into these and watch some snooker. </p><p>Balvenie 12, 40% abv, CF, E150. Still trying to like this one 🤔 </p><p>Shackleton Blended Malt , 40% abv, NAS, E150, CF. A new one for me, I have read good things about it, but I am still making up my mind. First impressions are, it&#39;s OK, cinnamon, sugary honey and butterscotch. Orange peel notes but lacking a bit of complexity. A supermarket bargain at £18.</p><p>Lochlea Spring Edition, 2nd Crop 46%, NAS, NCF, NC. I picked this up on impulse at Geraldo&#39;s in Largs yesterday which sells chocolates, ice-cream and <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/whisky" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>whisky</span></a>! I wasn&#39;t that struck by the 2022 edition of this, but again I have read good things about the 2023 expression and it seems to be a big improvement. I shall report back!</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/scotch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>scotch</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/singlemalt" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>singlemalt</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/blendedmalt" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>blendedmalt</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Scotland</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Largs" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Largs</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/sailing" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>sailing</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/boat" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>boat</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/whiskey" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>whiskey</span></a></p>
