Carol Off (ex-CBC'er) has a point; co-opt a word and you seize and control the dialogue. "Freedom" was co-opted back in the #SarahPalin days. There's a great scene in the TV series #TheNewsroom where #JeffDaniels calls out a bunch of students: "You're free", he says, "Belgium's free, Japan's free" and points out the stupidity of misuse of the word.
Another word that the right has corrupted: "progressive"; what in god's name is wrong with being progressive?
