Can someone tell Satya Nadella and his whole passive group of Windows OS engineers to just kick rocks?</p><p>The morons in our industry who basically leveraged the PC and laptop hardware <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/OEMs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OEMs</span></a> to invent <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/UEFI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UEFI</span></a> back in the mid 2010s at the last minute to avert what was perceived by the wider industry as a minor crisis after a few mavericks took to the stage to remotely hack BIOS-based systems are, themselves, not following their own standards which they set forth -- specifically when it comes to playing by the rules in adopting UEFI properly. This back door script using third-party UEFI certificates linked to Microshaft, a.k.a. Microsoft is only possible due to... wait for it... Microsoft's utter incompetence in maintaining interoperable, secure, and measurable standards. The entire Open Source world has seen this movie many times before:</p><p>" The vulnerability is caused by the use of a custom PE loader instead of using the standard and secure UEFI functions LoadImage and StartImage. As a result, the application allows the loading of any UEFI binary – even an unsigned one – from a specially crafted file named cloak... "</p><p>In a nutshell, a signed UEFI application allows a UEFI Secure Boot bypass.</p><p>Fuck this. We want to be able to boot all OSes: whether it be FreeBSD, Windows, macOS, Linux, or perhaps even the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Rust" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rust</span></a>-friendly <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Redox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Redox</span></a> -- from firmware only! That should be made into a requirement soon!
