#Christian communities face growing #political divide as #religious affiliation declines

More than a quarter of #Americans now claim no #religiousaffiliation, a finding from the @pewresearch . That makes the so-called “#nones” the largest bloc of Americans. Judy Woodruff reports that for #white #Christians, the once-dominant group by far, there’s also been a growing political divide within communities as faith has receded.

"Almost half of those who indicated that they are now religiously unaffiliated — nearly a fifth of the country — say their former religion’s hostility to LGBTQ+ Americans played a role.
This makes sense."

The gift article below is thanks to PRRI.
"We found that about 60% of Americans who are under the age of 30 who have left religion say they left because of their religious traditions teaching, which is a much higher rate than for older Americans.'"

PRRI asked those leaving churches why they are leaving:
"And nearly half (47%) of respondents who left cited negative teaching about the treatment of LGBTQ people.
Those numbers were especially high with one group in particular.
'Religion's negative teaching about LGBTQ people are driving younger Americans to leave church,' [Melissa] Deckman [of PRRI] says."

Jason DeRose reports on the recently published finding of PRRI that people in the U.S. are leaving churches in record numbers, and about a quarter of Americans now identify as religiously unaffiliated, "a number that has risen over the last decade and is now the largest single religious group in the U.S."

What kind of name could we come up with for a political party based on our growing population of Nones in the USA?
Escaping the psychological trap of religions' out-sized influence on U.S. politics would be major progress imo so I'm so glad to see these polling results.

@kevin3kon So, what about instead of “Christianity teaches that the ideal situation for humanity is a monarchy: king of kings. A dictatorship.” you could write “I am discouraged how in all churches I went to, pastors were interpreting the Bible as teaching that the ideal situation for humanity is …”? Yes, it would be less click-baity, and you would be less popular with the current #nones generation, but perhaps you would spread fewer lies?
