Purim is coming… and these chickens are already getting into the spirit! 🐔🎭🎉

Whether they’re dancing like Haman’s downfall or just celebrating a good plate of hamentashen, one thing is clear—Purim fever is contagious! Who else is ready to party like it’s Shushan all over again?

Matzah Bakery

"I based this illustration off a photo I took at the matzah bakery in Kiryat Sanz (Netanya, Israel). The bakers were being timed by a rabbi with a stopwatch (not pictured), to ensure the entire process, from beginning to end, doesn’t exceed the strict 18-minute time frame required for kosher matzahs."

My focus in teaching you Hebrew is on modern, everyday Hebrew.

But, today, we're diving into a bit of non-modern, everyday Hebrew with a special reason.

As we often see, biblical Hebrew still finds its way into our modern language.

This evening, we start celebrating ט"ו בִּשְׁבָט (Tu Bishvat) /too bee-sh-'vat/, known as the festival of the trees.

(I first wrote this as a comment but it's worth enough to be a full post.)

Starting tonight is Rosh HaShana, the Jewish new year!
Here's how to bless your fellow Jews:
- "Shana tova" is a classic. The literal meaning is "a good year".
- You can also go "shana tova u-mutzlachat" (the "ch" pronounced like Bach) for an upgrade.
- Another one that's sure to impress because goyim usually don't know about it is "chatima tova" (again, "ch" like Bach).
