There is a reason we can't rely on good, ethical private businesses to enact the change we want to see.

Every business will face challenges, and somewhere along the way, compromises have to be made, or it will be rejected by the system. There may be no fault on the part of the business owner. Every small step back is a case of compromise or fail. Do some good or no good, until they fall in line.

The only chance of rebalancing the system is by putting our time, ideas and money into community-owned infrastructure that relies less heavily on the capitalist system to exist.

One of the most counter-intuitive justifications for refusing to stop mindlessly competing and work co-operatively toward a shared common good is that it is more of a strain, takes more effort, with less return on investment than working alone.

The rationale most often heard is that the person is sick, disabled, tired, beaten down, overwhelmed, with the implication being that somehow a shared burden is heavier?

Based on that logic, extended families, communities, tribes, villages, towns would never form except by coercion.

It is a circle that cannot be squared.

In 2001, after building my own electric scooter for riding from my home in Over-the-Rhine to my office at Fifth Third Bank Tower, providing endless amusement for the neighborhood and fellow employees, I set to work on adapting diesel-electric freight train technology to an advanced series hybrid, diesel-electric semi-tractor trailer truck with a cooperative franchise converting existing trucks.

Over the past 20+ years, I've repeatedly tried having calm, rational discussions about this concept, and every single time been absolutely excoriated by Cis white man children of the EV community.

In fact, every single project of mine based on proven, evidentiary science has been attacked in every DIY community I've ever tried joining.

Apparently, nothing is real until white men say so.

#Coop #news

Thinking about starting a delivery #coop for super-secure stuff. Involving:

Person to person, point to point delivery
Offline and encrypted
No clouds, no AI, no possible intermediary

Thinking that we've got to the point that maybe true security now means going back to the old way to do things.

BBC: Inside Usonia: A 1940s utopian town in the United States

100-year-old Roland Reisley is the last original founding member of Usonia, a small community nestled in the woods about one hour north of New York City. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright - widely considered the greatest architect in American history - Usonian houses were affordable ($5,000 of the time, about $66K today), exquisitely designed, and integrated into nature. The town is often praised as the best designed town in America.
