My state, #NJ, is in full election mode until November. Primaries have started and so many democrats have thrown in their hats yet a few MAGA republicans are creeping around.

Not only is my city geared up for a new Mayor but the state opens for a new governor, of which my #jerseycity mayor is running for.

So far it’s mostly white trash party. Even the POC are touting the same issues and promises.

Yet no one wanting to squeeze in help for #autistics or single income families of disabled children.

Still, not since Clinton ran for president have I seen a candidate have a plan to help autistics.

@hzulla @Fuchskind And that #blind kid who got told "don't do X thing, people will think you're autistic" may have *actuallyautistic@a.gup.pe* been autistic. Not all #blindAutistics necessarily look like the classic autistic look either. Some of us look perfectly normal, and believe me when I say that some of us normal-looking #blind #autistics have spent a *bunch* of energy maintaining that normal appearance because it was expected, but are paying for it now.

Our grey matter - and the sheer amount of it (energy-draining, esp when combined with the heavy skull it needs for protection) - grew that way to help us, as individuals living in human societies, a) detect deception, and b) deceive and outdo others. Of our own species.

Now, enter #autistics.

Even the name, #autism - it's about not being what's considered properly 'socialised'.

I think many #autistics will relate to this. so many of her videos I really appreciate & connect with, which are about navigating socially. I wish I had someone like her when I was younger telling it to me straight & helping me understand the world, to appreciate my discernment. She adds in relevant scripture. It may not be for everyone, but she tells it like it is for me.

Trump administration identifying #Autism, #ADHD as "dire threats to the American people."

Underlying many of Trump's policies?

Eugenics. Against all disability.

Libertarian survival of the fittest.

Even if they don't round us up, over 80% of us #autistics are unemployed or under employed.

Killing our benefits like Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, Foodstamps, Housing, etc?

Just a soft means of killing us.

#SoftGenocide is more deadly. It goes unnoticed.

An addendum:

I must honor my fear.
Fear is my guardian, my screaming siren.
Fear is the warning of annihilation that must be heeded.
I will embrace my fear and share its wisdom.
I will let it flow through me into purpose and strength.
And when we have acted, I will remember its lessons.
Where the danger once stood, we will remain.
We are stronger for having feared... and acted... together.

Most fellow #autistics seem to hate using the #phone for voice calls. I'm the opposite for the most part - if it's a long conversation. I just prefer short texts to confirm things or check on things quickly. If it's going to need me to be involved in a lengthy conversation, I'd rather talk over the phone than type a bunch of long texts. It saves me a lot of time to just have a voice conversation over the phone. I save time that I can spend doing other activities.

So I've been thinking about what #KemiBadenoch said on #Autistics and #Autism and I think she just has the wrong group...

See, we need to be "building resilience" in our #MPs. I mean, being elected as a #MP once made it so you could "deal with the world," and I mean NOW you get better treatment, protections, and transport as a #MP.

I mean... "The growth of such powers of #MPs has been accompanied by an expansion of the numbers and the powers of the bureaucratic class"

I often get told by my wife that I need to change as I am not suitable for public presentation, or that my hair needs cutting (I am fine with this as she fills in the gaps I leave :blob_cat_innocent:) I don't have much of a self image, and do not give thought to this. I am body concious, but to me that is completely seperate. Do other #autistics have similar experiences? @actuallyautistic

A question for autistic writers

Are there any writers here who are autistic? How do you handle something that you don't understand or can't relate to?

My challenge is, there are so many things I can't grasp because of the way my brain works. For example, I see in novels and TV series/drama that a person loses focus when they hear a very bad news (like their health).

However, in my case, at least from my experiences of hearing bad news, I never once lost focus; instead, I am more focus on listening to the expert (like a doctor). I'm more attentive because in my mind, that's the only way forward.

So, if I want to write a character, I end up with something monotone or too generic. It is not realistic for most people, but it is for me.

Or say, a character who obviously shouldn't do something but they still do it anyway. I'm trying to understand why so I can develop the character, but I'm failing in it.

How do you handle it? Do you have a collection of examples, or watch something and put what you've watched into words?

Thank you!
