From the clicking my rogue knee has started to make when walking, I'm guessing the "put off a replacement as long as possible" advice is running out of time.

“PM lacks moral courage on trans stance, says Badenoch”

Which is a nice way of saying “He’s not bigoted enough, says Badenoch”, BBC.

Today I have had to downgrade Celery from 5.5.0 to 5.4.0 because whatever they changed in that minor version bump breaks one (1!) of the six identically coded sub-tasks in my chord.

And people wonder why I hate this Python monstrosity of a system I am forced to baby along (because no-one else will touch it and management won't let me replace it) instead of doing useful work.

Headlines that even in the year of our collective madness 2025 and the month of hysteria April still make you go W T A F:

If you’re British and trans and feeling like everyone’s against you, take a look at the 1,600+ writers who have signed this letter of solidarity: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18p-rvgNitRKYs9C2PoIBC86Fb2ZQnBd8PzEfgGfnsKo/mobilebasic

Names on the list that made me smile included historian Fern Riddell, poet Nikita Gill, and comedians Sara Pascoe, James Acaster, Sophie Duker, and Aisling Bea.

If you haven't yet experienced the joy of Le Poisson Steve, please, allow me.

(Feel free to curse me when you catch yourself doing the background "poisson steve" as you proceed about your everyday life though.)

I can recommend Ian's Shoelace Site if you're after new / fancy / weird ways of lacing your shoes / boots / whatnots. Plus useful commentary on why you might want to use XYZ ("easy to cut off", "locks the ankle", etc.)

(Used "Train Track" on my interview/funeral shoes and "Ladder" on my Solovairs. Haven't re-laced my new boots yet but may use "Footbag" to loosen up the front until they're broken in.)

Francy Poap, the leader of Catherine Kirk, has dried. He had a double pneumatic drill on his longs, which is a perspiratory infantilization. The Vulcans must now conduct a Paypal folderol, which is typically in Latrine. A 9-day morning follows. Millions of mourners are expectorant to view his bobby. His decompressor, Eggs Benedict (Joseph Ratatouille), passed by in 2013.

Trying a new lacing. Looks nice but isn't really convenient to work.

Pro*Tip: make /var bigger than you think you’ll need. Because some things (looking at you, Home Assistant on Arch) really, really want to live in /var/lib and get amazingly pissy if you try to move them elsewhere, even with a forwarding link.

(To be fair, it’s probably a Python venv problem as much as anything but since Arch HA runs under a venv, a problem it is for me.)

(No, I do not want to run HA in Podman, thank you, and I don’t currently have a machine available for dedicating to the fragile monster.)

Which one of you Fedi weirdos* was at the Edinburgh trans rights demo holding the sign saying:

private String gender

A thought for trans allies in this time:

You often ask us what you can do to help. Well, here's something you can do. Wear trans badges, buttons, pins, scarves, whatever you've got. Explicitly. I wanna see that blue and pink EVERYWHERE.

Because the more of you cis folk do that, the safer we will be in crowds and such. It will mean that wearing a badge of support for trans people doesn't necessarily out that person as trans.

"But wait," you're thinking maybe, "if I do that, people might think *I* am trans!"

Well, why is that a problem for you? Would you be offended by someone thinking you might be trans? Would you be scared? Welcome to our world.

This is your time, cis people. You were all ready to call yourselves allies when it didn't matter more than changing your PFP background. Now the rubber meets the road. We need you. We need your help to normalise our existence to other cis people. It could save lives.

If someone accuses you of being trans (imagine being *accused* of existing while trans?), don't deny it. Ask why it matters to them. Keep calm.

I am sure this is evident to many but I simply do not understand fashion. I'm still reeling from the report into Burberry a couple of years ago, that revealed they burn £30million in stock every year to protect resale price drop, artificially inflating the value. Apparently extremely common, with all fashion houses doing it. Billions of pounds of clothes burned to keep people buying their products at a higher price point. It was one of the most profoundly grotesque things I'd ever heard. Imagine the resources that went into creating those clothes. Imagine the damage done to the environment by burning them. Imagine what a colossal waste it is on a planet where people die because they don't have enough to eat. It makes me very very angry. But take all of that out of the equation........ Who the fucking fuck is buying Burberry clothes? It's just one pattern! What is happening I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. It's one awful tartan pattern repeated over and over again. Infinite nans curtains. If you buy Burberry I will not respect you. Anyone who spends £300 on a bucket hat that looks like a stupid piece of shit from one of the most evil brands on the planet, is an absolute fool. (sorry I just saw a Burberry advert)

Newcastle are another team that, if you look at the officiating, are definitely "getting the rub of the green", as it were ([exaggerated wink to camera]).

Guimarães just committed two blatant fouls in quick succession right in front of the referee without a card.

Between this and Liverpool's continuing avoidance of censure for almost anything they do on the pitch, current PGMOL is not fit for purpose.

The London trans rights protest was incredible. There were thousands of us there — trans people, intersex people, LGB people, and cis allies, with the full diversity of humanity on display. The police were completely outnumbered and just watched as we dismantled the barriers around Parliament Square. A passing bus driver stopped to ask if anyone could lend him a flag. We heard speeches, chanted, and marched to St James’s Park. (Photos are cropped avoid showing faces of people near the camera.)
