@wild1145 Hi Ryan!
I got to wondering, in terms of the financial support needed to allow universeodon to continue to operate and to resolve outstanding issues like storage, adequate hardware resources, and bandwidth, what would be a goal for you for fundraising? Let's assume we could get 50% of active users to do a monthly donation. How much does the average donation need to be to fully fund universeodon (not just where it is now, but with a budget to do the needed upgrades, to support both the current user base, and reasonable future growth)?
@LiveByReason Hey, so it's hard to give a solid 100% accurate number but if 50% of the 6.8k active users donated $5 a year it'd comfortably run everything we run today and give us a decent amount of headroom (I think) for future growth. $10 a year from that same 50% would allow us to make some fairly significant investments in our hardware and infrastructure and give us some abilities to better distribute and locate our infrastructure and hardware so we could deploy into North America rather than all of the infrastructure sitting in a London data centre.
It's hard to give numbers that are accurate as we share infrastructure with my other Mastodon server (and will share with future fedi projects) and we rely on some "free" hosting the hosting element of my own company provides for bits of our infrastructure.
@LiveByReason If 50% of the active users here and on MastodonApp.UK were donating $3 a year even we'd be in a really solid position for all sorts of future growth. The reality is right now we see donations from around 400 of the 14,700 ish active users donating which is hugely valuable but that number continues to go down month to month which is a shame.
