more interesting to see, yet entirely predictable, was the people condemning the ruling. None of whom have ever had any of their political opponents jailed or worse. Not once. Ever. Of course.
The problem is that unless the French constitution specifically prohibits a felon from running for office, the ban is judicial over-reach and threatens the rule of law's being corrupted for political purposes. You know, like it's done in the US.
i used to be fascinated by how france has like eight billion laws, most of which are just performative, and how people in general do what the F they want as long as cops aren’t watching them. And cops would ignore most of those laws … unless they wanted to take someone down a peg or two.

Since she's been convicted, she has been given prime time on national television to explain "how the judicial system is corrupt and banning her from the future election is unfair". So justice currently works better, true, but the direction we're heading is not a good one.
The american right is outraged because the notion of crimes having consequences is completely alien to them. Meanwhile most of europe are just pointing and laughing at her, well, they're making gestures with their fingers anyway.
