Isabel Ruffell<p>Oh well, today is the day for the FWS case. Isabel Ruffell<p>I see a lot of talk about <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/oligarchy" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>oligarchy</span></a> (as, recently, Monbiot), and am reminded yet again of Herodotus&#39; so-called &quot;Debate on the Constitutions&quot;, whereby in a three-way shootout between monarchy, oligarchy and democracy, it will come down to a fight between <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/monarchy" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>monarchy</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/democracy" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>democracy</span></a>. In this account, oligarchy will always reduce to monarchy (=tyranny).</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Greece" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Greece</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Persia" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Persia</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Classics" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Classics</span></a></p>
Isabel Ruffell<p>This is going to be very shallow, and my little remaining vision is not to be trusted, but <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Starmer" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Starmer</span></a> does not seem to be wearing well. He&#39;s looking like a cross between John Shuttleworth and a Python Gumby. </p><p>Is it a causal thing? The more he slides to the right, the less convincing he is as a specimen of puissant national masculinity, thereby following the usual fascist pattern.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/UKpol" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UKpol</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Labour" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Labour</span></a></p>
