Trump is realigning the world—and not in a way that is good for the U.S.
@georgetakei f*ckface is bringing the world together. A real kumbaya moment.
@donlamb_1 @georgetakei I will say, Mexico probably should have built that wall.
@passwordsarehard4 @donlamb_1 @georgetakei
Trump's wall was never to keep immigrants out, just like the Berlin wall he'll need it to sane Americans in.
@georgetakei Don't worry. The US will only be a pariah until such time as you depose your tyrants.
@Eetschrijver @georgetakei
Trump has been reelected. Which strongly suggests that he's a symptom, not a cause.
@cqd_sos
Note the plural in my post.
@georgetakei
@Eetschrijver @georgetakei we may he able to get rid of him in 2029 (maybe, the courts very well might justify letting him run for a third term)
But the nearly half of American voters that picked him will still be here, ready to vote for someone just as bad or worse.
Every election we'll have to worry if we'll elect someone willing to destroy the country again.
@jack_of_sandwich
Again, note the plural.
@georgetakei
@jack_of_sandwich @Eetschrijver @georgetakei
Ha! - you think you are getting free and fair elections again? Ah Bless!
He's already told you you won't have to vote again.
@Eetschrijver Frankly I wish the rest of the world hadn't given us a mulligan after Bush. Let alone Trump's first term.
I wish it wasn't China and Russia gaining from our marginalization, though. The EU certainly isn't perfect but given the options I hope they come out on top. @georgetakei
@Eetschrijver @georgetakei Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree. Because Trump was voted in by Americans. Twice.
At least in Canada we will probably not forget, until every last person alive today in Canada is dead, that the USA turned from ally to enemy in a veritable heartbeat. That enough Americans were fine with torching one of the oldest national friendships in the world for no reason beyond being stupid assholes.
This *may* be forgiven in a few decades. It won't be *forgotten* ever.
@georgetakei
This would be a good moment for Russians to get rid of their dictator, leave Ukraine and become friends with Europe again.
@georgetakei International pariah in just a few weeks. Quite an accomplishment.
On top of succeeding pissing off canadians and making quebeckers defend canadian sovereingty.
@MichelPatrice @georgetakei En effet, c'est tout un exploit! [That's indeed quite an accomplishment.]
@GhostOnTheHalfShell @georgetakei And an UNTIER (of relationships)!
@georgetakei I mean, I'm impressed. I did not imagine THAT would happen, ever. But we live in strange times indeed.
@Hasufin @georgetakei A surprise is that India is outside the tent. Says that Modi is seen as too close to Trump.
Other SE Asian countries may come on board once there isan actual proposal. So this might not be the final membership. Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand all have interests threatened by the US tariffs. My own country of Australia too, but our export mix is different, so I imagine the CJK preference is that Aus announce support without seeking participation.
Holy st! Japan going against the US government publicly then uniting with their rivals to do it? Yeah, this is bad af!
Like the rock, the paper, and the scissors combining to form Tarifftron.
@georgetakei He got the three major east Asian powers to unite against him.
He is so cooked.
@georgetakei at this point I wouldn't be surprised if he actually brought peace to Israelis and Palestinians by virtue of everyone just hating him more than each other.
@georgetakei Trump is doing exactly what he promised to do. He doesn’t give two, not even one hoot. I am still perplexed by his popularity. Recently I met a couple sitting next to me in a restaurant in Paris and they were completely into your man. And I was perplexed and sad at how brainwashed they were.
@georgetakei Compassionate fucking Buddha! CHINA AND JAPAN AGREEING ON ANYTHING!?
Yeah, if you get China and Japan (and Korea, yes) aligned against you in unison you done fucked up something fierce.
