@godzero @georgetakei White supremacists run many Spanish speaking radio and TV stations to convey their far right narratives to Latinos who don't speak English. For many this is the only source of news they get. The left must do better to inform Spanish speaking Americans they are being lied to.
@georgetakei George Zimmerman has a Jewish surname and claimed to be Latino after he killed Trayvon Martin. It's just a guess on my part, but pretty sure he didn't stalk and jump white kids walking through the neighborhood.

@georgetakei I admittedly don't pay much attention, but the reasoning sounds very much like the Kindergarden rulesets kids make up as they go along to fit whatever they want to do... Like so many other excuses I keep hearing when spoiled brats don't want to follow rules about smoking, masks, alcohol... It cannot be x because of y is a common pattern with them.

@georgetakei it also shows a staggering lack of understanding in race concepts (and caste for that matter) in Ibero-Hispanic societies.
Racism/colorism in Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries is itself a complex, painful topic that is largely ignored (IMHO intentionally) by Americans because it just makes an already messy domain much much messier.

Latin America has a big white supremacist problem, and fascists and thugs. Bolsonaro, has been sold white supremacy. Just for a little example. And he was "installed" in the brazillian presidency.

@georgetakei During inquisition times, the worst torturers were the so-called converts. Since they were under suspicion by virtue of having been non-Christians, they overcompensated by being crueler and more irrational than old-time Christians. That was their way to prove their loyalty to the new faith. I find some of that in all color folks who choose to embrace the Republican Party. Unfortunately, rank bigotry doesn’t clear the color of their skin, as they seem to hope for.
