Always Joni Mitchell, from this corner. Bending the rules a bit, using the word Veils. The song is Like Veils, Said Lorraine, from the collection Joni Mitchell Archives Vol. 3 The Asylum Years 1972-1975. These are lines from the song.

"Life is like veils you tear off," said Lorraine
"No, it's walls we put up," said that tired voice again

You get so discouraged trying to cut thru it all
More veils beyond veils
Always walls beyond the walls

I don't want to grow narrow
and foolish in old age
And miss all that beauty
That wisdom and the grace
And you know you don't get that
From high finance or fame - if you're stuck in that frame
Or the paint that you put
On your face or your name
"Life is like veils," said Lorraine

@MISM I started to look this one up hours ago and got sidetracked. A little bird just reminded me.

Lovely.

Artist: David Sylvian
Album: Gone To Earth (1987)
Song: Taking The Veil

Almost forgot to do this (missed my nag, I guess) and I had this one ready to go since last week...

David Sylvian is a little hit-or-miss with me. I never got much into Japan, and this is the only solo album of his I really like (although I do really like it); I also like the Rain Tree Crow album, and "Snow Borne Sorrow" from Nine Horses.

But mostly I love "Gone To Earth", definitely the first disc of songs with vocals ("Taking The Veil" is a great opener), but I also like the second disc of instrumentals.
