‘At least 500’ dead after Edit: <strike>Israeli</strike> airstrike on Gaza hospital

irishtimes.com/world/middle-ea

More than 1,000 children have reportedly been killed in 11 days of airstrikes on Gaza – one child every 15 minutes – with children making up a third of total fatalities in Gaza.

savethechildren.org.uk/news/me

This is not war. This is slaughter. This is barbarism. Nothing justifies this.

And yet the West watches—cheers with blood lust, even—as Israel commits genocide.

The Irish Times · Israel-Hamas war: ‘At least 500’ dead after Israeli airstrike on Gaza hospitalBy Jack Power

What is enough?

A thousand dead children is clearly not. Two eyes for an eye is clearly not. Is three enough? Four? Five? All?

What is enough?

The Irish Times has updated its headline to “Hundreds dead after Gaza hospital strike as conflict continues to escalate” as Israel denies it was responsible for that particular strike, blaming a failed rocket launch from Gaza.

This is madness. And I fear it’s only going to get worse. And my heart breaks at the senseless loss of life and human suffering.

@aral this pretty much guarantees the next generation of Hamas sympathizers within the Palestinian population.

I just don't get it, what Israel's government tries to achieve with this strategy besides more conflicts and terror for the foreseeable future.

@eliasp @aral That's exactly what they're trying to achieve. Hamas is Israel's enemy of choice. That's why they funded them back in the 80's ( theintercept.com/2018/02/19/ha ) and why Netanyahu has, according to Haaretz, been supporting them since 2009 ( haaretz.com/israel-news/2023-1 archived article here: archive.ph/C8dQl ).

They think this is what is necessary to prevent a Palestinian state.

The Intercept · Blowback: How Israel Went From Helping Create Hamas to Bombing ItBy Mehdi Hasan

@aral they have clearly stated all is the goal.

Which is odd as if someone so much as calls them names they scream genocide.

@aral The headline says 500 dead and the article says 500 casualties. Which is it?

@aral I heard a father who was happy that his 8 years old daughter was killed and not kidnapped. She escaped torture. How sad 😢

@Inekeduzz Yes, it’s horrible. And Hamas are barbarians. No one (except some unconscionable tankies) is arguing otherwise. This does not justify an entity that purports to be a democracy acting in the same way or worse. It does not justify the mass slaughter of civilians with genocidal intent.

@aral I’ve seen a lot of accusations against Israel.

@aral , "Between February 24 and March 21, 2022, sixty-four medical facilities and their personnel were targeted by Russian forces in Ukraine, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported. The facilities were being hit at rate of two to three a day, inflicting 15 deaths and 37 injuries. By April 8, 2022, WHO had confirmed 91 attacks."

Where is the outrage at Ruzzias ethnic cleansing of Ukrainians? Note that this WHO report is only for the first month of Ruzzias invasion.

@jclonningdal Are you serious? It’s everywhere. And rightfully so. Do you live under a rock?

Please take your whataboutism elsewhere.

@jclonningdal @aral
Really? Have you just moved from a different galaxy to earth? 🤦

@ruedi @aral , just stating that the world seems to no longer care about civilian lives. Putin is still here and in power no matter how many lives are on his bloody hands now from his bombings in Syria and Ukraine. Likely Israel will face no consequences either for all their killing of civilians now too. The conflict is unfortunately much bigger than Israel-Palestine.

@aral Thanks for sharing this. Bloodlust is a good word for this situation and I find that terrifying. People want revenge, not solutions, and the Israeli government is going to use that desire as justification to kill as many people as they can.

500 dead in a hospital and people still try to argue that this is just about “fighting Hamas.”

@aral

the first part of your toot is yet not officially confirmed. Hamas claims Israelis to be guilty for that.

@aral my perception is very contrary to your statement "And yet the West watches—cheers with blood lust, even—as Israel commits genocide." The last few days, the media focus has been on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Just today, BBC Global News podcast featured several interviews with Palestinians, some sheltering from rockets. Western politicians have expressed their deep concern about civilian casualties. The opposite of blood lust.

@aral as much as I honestly think that Netanyahu should face a process for being a war criminal for a thousand reasons (people in Gaza are drinking salty water because the access to fresh water was cut), *this* particular case is not confirmed (yet) to be Israelian responsibility. And as the situation is already a mess we should be careful not trying to spread disinformation.

@CiaobyDany The Irish Times is the newspaper of record in Ireland so it’s not like I was quoting some random social media account. They’ve now updated the article to say “strike” as Israel is saying it wasn’t them. Regardless of who it turns out to be, it’s a bloody tragedy.

@aral absolutely and I have specified it in the toot as well. I also had thought it was Israel as well at first. I think that anybody should do what they can to not spread misinformation. Antisemitism and antiislamism are already rampaging enough as it is.

@aral IDF were saying they needed hospitals vacated so they could bomb the Hamas hiding there. Now they bombed a hospital and are saying Hamas did it to themselves. They don’t even bother to keep their story straight cause they know there will be no consequences.

@aral
Israel's "final solution" has been in progress for decades. They knew the Hamas attack would eventually happen, but in their apartheid arrogance they just did not expect that much loss. No matter, their failure gives even more motivation for the always intended extermination of Palestinians from the land. The acceleration of the mass murder plan has every so called democracy's leadership as complicit. And of course, there will be no holding any of these people and governments accountable.

@aral both sides are pointing at the other saying "They Did It"

Who the fuck cares. JUST STOP IT!

@pch It’s a human tragedy and I fear it’s only going to get worse.

@aral This is disputed who's missile caused this. Please be careful with the sources.

@aral Corrected Headline on that URL/Post

@aral Look the Israeli government isn't good neither is Hamas. But check facts before sending them out.

@pch The Irish Times is the newspaper of record in Ireland. Every newspaper got it wrong.

Edited original post now and also see mastodon.ar.al/@aral/111252505

@aral that's all I saying. Just edit it so it reflects the new headline that's all. I'm not an Israeli apologist. FYI. Just want the right info out there.

@pch Also see: Hananya Naftali, media advisor to Netanyahu, first posted it was an Israeli strike on X, then deleted his post and posted about a “mysterious explosion” an hour later.

His latest post:

twitter.com/HananyaNaftali/sta

@aral @pch the only reason I can think of for media to still be on X

@aral did you personally see the tweet screenshotted on the left side of this image? or how do you know it's authentic? just asking since twitter/x screenshots are easily faked.

@scott See link. He admits to it in it. (Screenshot is from Reddit thread but other versions also exist online. The authenticity of the original post, afaik, is uncontested, even by the author.)

@pch The tragic part is, the government of *each* sides has as explicit policy, the non-existence of the other side.

So, while the majority of population in both areas want peace, their current governments won't let that happen, and are clear about this in their public statements.

(And the governments themselves are trapped, by hard-liner right-wing *within* those governments who won't allow the scaling back of eradication policy.)

@aral

@aral

Who’s cheering in the West? I’m not saying they don’t exist, but certainly not in my circles. Met with horror and disgust all around.

@10tothe22 Mostly the folks in power. See UK, US.

I see they're continuing the Western media style guide:

Israeli people "killed". Palestinian people "died".

@aral

@aral TBF, the US infamously started "The War on Terror" and invaded a couple of countries in the process, so I don't see why they'd be against what's happening in Gaza. The west watched, did nothing, if not aided, back then, and it's watching and doing nothing now.

Unfortunately, the majority of people are like that. Arabs don't care about what's happening in Ukraine either. The west can get on the highest horse they find, but the truth is the majority of people just suck, western or not.

@aral I haven't seen anyone cheer with bloodlust. I think you are a liar trying to stir up shit.

@maj7152 Please feel free to fuck right off.

@aral I am from the west and I am not fucking cheering. It’s the same fucking situation as Russia. The oligarchy own everyone here. They profit from the killing they always want more.

@aral I know you’re getting traction on this, but it should be edited. Israel denies EVER targeting a hospital and states Islamic Jihad was firing missiles into Israel when the hospital was hit. Those missiles reportedly have a 30% failure rate. 30%!

Claiming Israel is committing genocide is irresponsible, antisemitic, and leads to death. Be responsible

@Millicent Edited the post.

Claiming Israel is committing genocide when Israel is committing genocide and calling Palestinians “human animals” while murdering 1,000 children is not antisemitic. It is called being human and being appalled by the barbaric slaughter of human beings regardless of who is carrying out the slaughter. And you will not shame me into ignoring the humanity of the Palestinian people.

@Millicent @aral Doesn’t really make a difference if they bombed this hospital in particular or not, they’ve already committed enough war crimes in this campaign to make it clear what their true aims are. Continued oppression and eventual elimination.

Israel IS trying to commit genocide. Pointing that out is not antisemitism. Denying that will lead to more death for Palestinians.

@Millicent
Schrödinger's missiles. Simultaneously a grave high order threat to Israel capable of hyper accurate fire out to 150km and yet also conveniently badly made jokes prone to accidentally killing Palestinians en masse when required to suit the current narrative. I had no idea before this week just how far Hamas research into advanced quantum state weaponry had progressed.

@aral

@aral Cheers with blood lust? I think you underestimate the compassion of many "Western" people. I've been appalled even before today. So have many others.

@aral We need to boycott Israel like we did with Russia

@aral hamas say Israel did it. Israel say hamas did it. If there are contradictory accusations, why should one believe Hamas's word without blinking?
