How about a thread of antifascist music?

Shtil di nacht iz oysgeshternt” (“Silent, the night is full of stars”)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shtil,_di_nakht_iz_oysgeshternt
"Still the night and full of starlight,
And the frost burned on the land;
Do you still remernher how I taught you
To hold a revolver in your hand?
A girl. a sheepskin and a beret.
In her hands she holds a gun,
A girl with her face as smooth as velvet
Keeps watch of the enemy’s caravan.
An aim, a shot right on the target,
Her small pistol had reached its mark,
An auto filled high with ammunition
Her shot had stopped it in the dark.
At dawn she crept out of the woodland,
With snowy garlands in her hair.
Encouraged by her little victory
For our future freer heirs."
Woody Guthrie - "All You Fascists"
https://www.woodyguthrie.org/Lyrics/All_You_Fascists.htm
"I’m gonna tell you fascists
You may be surprised
The people in this world
Are getting organized
You’re bound to lose
You fascists bound to lose"
And now for something more upbeat
(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang - LCD Soundsystem cover
They Might Be Giants - "The Communists Have The Music"
"I got handed an Ayn Rand sandwich
Straight from a can, it tasted so bland
I asked a lass to pass me a glass
Of Engel's Conditions of the Working Class
Right away they dragged me to the committee
To explain my un-American activity
They're gonna see they made a mistake
If they'd only let me play my mixtape
I'm not partial to the martial
Or the plutocrats in their beaver hats
And the fascists have the outfits
But I don't care for the outfits
What I care about is music
And the communists have the music"
"...and we'll never rest again, until every nazi dies"
Now with video on mastodon. My New Pipe is working again!
If you haven't heard Jesse Welles yet pull up a chair. We have a modern young Dylan/Guthrie on our hands.
This might just be a masterpiece. Written before a show, performed in a bathroom and spread to the world for $0 in minutes.
#AntifaAF Music
Well they call this the land of plenty
And for them I guess it's true
For the rich and mighty capitalists
Not for workers like me and you
Well now what can we do about it
To these men of power and might
Well I'll tell you mister capitalist
We are going to fight! fight! fight!

Are you #Tarrified yet?
You will probably appreciate this song and thread @reverend
Got a song of yours that we should add?
@SrRochardBunson Wow! This is genius! Check it out people!!
@SrRochardBunson apparently when you edit the post it kills embedded player.
thanks for ruining my vibe comrade :P
@benda
oh wow, sorry about that!
I've probably already listened to it 10x already.
@benda I didn't want people to think he died already, so I changed had to have.
@SrRochardBunson How does he keep topping himself? It all seems so effortless and organic. I have tickets for April 1 at the Mississippi, can't wait.
@Mungencakes LUCKY!!!
To answer your question, it seems like the great ones are just receivers & transmitters. The genius comes from being able to listen to the ether, imo.
@SrRochardBunson I think it's empathy. You can see the pain in his face as he reaches to turn off the camera. I think it was Dick Cavett who said to Dylan how much he enjoyed "Blood On The Tracks". Dylan replied, "I don't understand how someone can enjoy that much pain."
@SrRochardBunson Mrs. Cakes saw the song first on FB. She said people replied that they really liked Welles because his songs weren't political.
@Mungencakes HAHAHAHAHAHA
Thanks, I needed that laugh.
@SrRochardBunson I just discovered Jesse Welles the other day. He is amazing. Here is another good one.
"War Isn't Murder"
@redsad @SrRochardBunson
Incredible talent
@SrRochardBunson On par with "War Is A God". And he's 30 years old, by which time Bob Dylan had already written all of his masterpieces. But Jesse Welles has just begun.
Absolutely! I had to go back and listen to "War is a God" for comparison and this comment about broke me. That's some powerful-ass music.
@SrRochardBunson Soooo great! I was halfway thru and my son came out of my room to ask “Is this that Jesse guy?”
He said he had gotten a zillion fans with the United Healthcare song and now he’s got this one. Reminds me of when Ren exploded in views and listens around the world. Tremendous talent.
@cobalt123 YESS!!!
He's an amazing talent and even more than that, it's refreshing that someone can still organically "blow up".
Check out this comment left on "War is a God". I'm tearing up over here.
@SrRochardBunson @cobalt123 this one gave me goosebumps!
God above!
@SrRochardBunson he sure writes nice songs Using very actual topics and with cool gritty voice.
Though i think 'organic' is a myth. His videos go viral, sure. Just like the 'Rich Men North of Richmond’ song.
You don't get featured in Rolling Stone Magazine as an unknown artist.
300 Entertainment, Jesse Welles's label, is a sublabel of the Warner Music Group. That sure helps to get things going.
@SrRochardBunson god DAMN that kid has talent
@SrRochardBunson this broke my heart. This boy should be able to make songs about losing his first love, not about losing his society to madmen...
Utter genius.
(Now I'm feeling silly - he's 30 flipping years old. He looked 16 in that video.)
@tirrimas I completely and enthusiastically agree!
Ready for another?

@tirrimas @SrRochardBunson did you see the performance of War Isn't Murder in the subway station?

@SrRochardBunson Thank you, what a gem.
@trabern You're most welcome!
There's way more amazing songs that he's just churning out!

https://universeodon.com/@SrRochardBunson/114117308956168317
@SrRochardBunson Holy fuck. That's superb.
@SrRochardBunson
Great tune. I like all the complaints in the comments about people comparing him to other artists
Not like a good tune takes a complex riff, now I’ve got the earworm in my head. It’s gonna bother me until I remember what song that one reminds Me of
Maybe something totally different? And nothing to take away from this song
@AccordionBruce haha, people will complain about anything. I've pretended that internet comment sections don't exist since ~2005.
Did you come up with the answer? Because I had the same feeling.
His lyrics and delivery is where it's at for me. Lawd knows this generation needs a Guthrie/Dylan/Young.
@SrRochardBunson
Haven’t thought of the tune it reminds me of. I think it’s a different style, by a woman? Bugging me
What this generation needs is a way for outspoken artists to get heard and paid
Which a few managed to do in the past
Always people creating. But getting them fed and heard is something else
Lotta dudes with guitars will be inspired by this guy
We need more accordion Dylans — or any other instrument. Where’s the chiptune Dylan?
@SrRochardBunson @reverend
This was one I did from a few weeks ago, against the banning of DEI words, so pretty on topic. Cool thread by the way.
@Rob @reverend That rules, thank you!
"Use art as a weapon"
-John Hearfield
Mr. Heartfield would be mighty proud of what you're doing to use art to speak truth to power. Keep on keepin' on! ️
I started a thread about the #DEI #BannedWords, too!
https://universeodon.com/@SrRochardBunson/114130126759796840
@SrRochardBunson @reverend Thank you very kindly for both the kind words and the banned words thread!
@SrRochardBunson Consolidated had some stuff in the early 90s.
@SrRochardBunson Yeah. That is the kind of thing that ends up in my heavy rotation playlist immediately.
@JustGrist you and me both!
The incomplete list of #JesseWelles songs that I'm obsessed with in addition to that one are:
War is a God
War Isn't Murder
Red
Happy Mother's Day
Apocalypse Love
See Arkansaw
Fentanyl
God, Abraham & Xanax
Dupont
Cancer
United Health is what put him on my radar.
@SrRochardBunson Excellent. I will have to check out some of these. Thanks for the recs.
@JustGrist It's truly my pleasure! You'll find higher quality audio of most of his songs, but this one is so new that I don't think so.
He wrote "I Ain’t Got None of My Friends Left" on tour and recorded that youtube video in a venue bathroom & released it less than a month ago. He's tapping into something special & the rawness & immediacy is very needed, imo.
@JustGrist "Red" is even newer. He dropped it just a couple of weeks ago.
@SrRochardBunson whats this about "new pipe"?
(and hell yeah, chumbawamba)
@benda android app that gives youtube without ads and ability to download video or audio
@SrRochardBunson aaah gotcha. someone turns me on the invidious a while ago so ive been working with that. it not always smooth sailing, but maintains my privacy and starves their ad revenue. fuck the tech bros.
@benda right on. Yeah, I had a run of back luck with invidious, but I also really love the dl feature.
@SrRochardBunson as far as audio goes (since yt is unofficially the best corpo source of streaming music) there are ways to download using any simple music recording software, like audacity. let me know if you can't figure it out and i'll help ya. i rip all sorts of rare cuts and live shows from yt using it.
